From the very beginning, Farmers Seafood has recognized the importance of safeguarding the health of our oceans and the success of the seafood industry. Throughout the years, we have built our legacy around working with other stakeholders to create positive, long-term change.
Despite the fact that many fisheries are being managed sustainably, we need to make continual improvements across the board to protect against overfishing, unregulated fishing, by-catch, and habitat damage. Our broad range of sustainability partnerships has not only given us the confidence that our products are being sourced from well-managed and trusted suppliers, but has also educated us about current trends and best practices that we strive to emulate.
HOW TWO BARRELS OF FISH SPARKED A 100-YEAR, MULTIGENERATIONAL FAMILY LEGACY.
In 1918, brothers Gus and Sam Mijalis opened the Farmers Quick Lunch, offering farmers a place to grab a quick meal while working at the Farmers’ Market. The menu was simple: hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, and the most popular item of all, fried fish. Demand quickly grew, and customers began requesting fresh, raw fish to take home.
One Friday afternoon, the Mijalis brothers received four barrels of fish instead of their usual two. Rather than risk spoilage over the weekend, the cook set out to sell the extra fish at the market. Thirty minutes later, every barrel was sold. Before long, the Quick Lunch became the Farmers Fish Market, marking the beginning of a lasting legacy.
Today, Farmers Seafood Company offers a diverse portfolio of seafood, meats, and a full line of products ranging from kitchen staples to culinary innovations. From fine dining to food trucks, casinos to healthcare, convenience stores to K–12, no customer is too small or too large. We invite you to experience the Farmers Seafood Company difference as we help to supply the future of the foodservice industry.
